I need to find out what the best MP3 player is out there, and fast 🙂
I wanna say the IPOD, but not there’s a Pocket DJ or something from Dell that someone told me is comperable (and can actually play more formats than the IPOD).
I have a feeling you guys can set me straight in an afternoon, so I thought I’d ask you.
lisarein@finetuning.com is my email to send suggestions to.
Thanks!

IMHO it is better than the iPod, but without the “I have an iPod” factor, of course. 😉
I was given an iPod yesterday for my birthday. And I can atest to the fact that it is the best thing ont he planet. I’ve had other devices before and really, it’s not a huge limitation to only support AAC and MP3. I already have my library in MP3s for a different jukebox software. I’m not an audiophile by any means, but I really can’t hear much of a difference.
I’m still for the ipod. From what I’ve seen the prices of the others aren’t that much different and ipod accessories are much more available (FM transmittor, speakers, plugging into the stereo, listening in the car, wrist band, etc) that it would be worth it. I’d be concerned buying another brand that might be cheaper, but also made on the cheap.
Of course, I’m an apple-zombie so’s take that into consideration, too.
Good luck!
Chris 🙂
iPod, hands down.
I still like my iPod – 5G with turning thumbwheel. One of the big factors to consider between the iPod and everyone else, is where you plan on buying your music from. You can choose the format for what you rip yourself; and most of what you get from friends will likely be in mp3 format. The iTunes Music Store uses AAC which means you have to playback on an iPod. Everyone else uses WMA which doesn’t playback on an iPod, but is supported by (almost) everything else out there.
I bought an iPod a few months ago because they had a really good deal for students if you bought it alongside a Powerbook. If they hadn’t had that deal, I would have seriously looked into iRiver’s hard drive players. They are less expensive than iPods and have a lot of cool features. I might have still gotten an iPod but I would have looked into the iRiver players. Before this, I had an iRiver CD-MP3 player and I really liked it’s ease of use and feature set.
My thoughts on the iPod:

A large majority of Dell contributions go to the GOP. Whereas Apple’s go to Democrats.
