Damn. Just what I was afraid of. The first guy that spoke up to oust Lott is only doing it because he wants the job. Fair enough, I guess.
It also looks like his civil rights voting record isn’t much better than Lott’s.
Well at least he doesn’t come out and say he wishes we were still a segregated nation. (Damn. Talk about the lesser of two evils.)
Does it have to be one or the other? Is there a Repub with enough senority to be Leader that also has an admirable civil rights record?
If not. What does that say about the Repubs? (Yes, my new name for them. I’ve just coined it here.)

The Arizona papers are saying that Bush was the one behind Lott’s ouster. My 86 year old father told me this morning he suspects that Nickles is Bush’s man (or should I say Cheney’s since everyone KNOWS that Cheney is the mastermind behind Bush? And, if that’s true, it means that now Bush/Cheney have just consolidated their control over the Senate.

I wrote him back reminding him of the Palmer raids in the early 1900’s and gave him a link to a brief overview of those days at http://chnm.gmu.edu/courses/hist409/red.html and he blogged the link I sent him ;-).
I told him that I was terrified that we do NOT know our own history. And, as the saying goes “Those who don’t remember their past are doomed to repeat it.” We have to learn the lesson that freedom is NOT free but must be fought for in every generation or we will surely lose it.
